Job Title: Residence Life Manager

Classification:  Full-year, full-time, benefits-eligible position

Reports to: Associate Dean of Student Engagement

Job Summary/Objective: Sweet Briar College seeks a Residence Life Manager to oversee the residential life component of the college. This includes 9 residential facilities that serve our ~360 student body. The successful candidate will supervise four Residential Coordinators (part-time professional staff) and 16 student Residential Advisors and coordinate residential hall-based programing to build community and further our educational mission to develop women leaders. The successful candidate will provide support for the emotional, intellectual, and social development of students as well as responding to student concerns regarding housing operations and room/dormmates, and student emergencies. The manager will be provided on campus housing as part of their compensation and must be available for irregular work hours, extended days, on-call emergencies, and weekends. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Guidance and supervision of resident coordinators and resident advisors.  
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and supervision of programs within the residence halls.
  • Plan and implement the move-in and move-out process.
  • Collaborate with admissions and other stakeholders across the college to smoothly on-board students to the college.  
  • Contribute to assessment of programs and operations in the residence life area to ensure continuing quality, innovation, and effectiveness.
  • Connect students with services to serve their challenges/needs
  • Serve on college committees as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with at least 5 years’ experience in student affairs and with more with progressively more responsibilities
  • Experience in residential housing 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively 
  • Demonstrated skill in organization, team-building, and management.  
  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in various forms and strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to manage and maintain records and databases to track, compile and interpret data. 
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • On campus residency required; evening and weekend work inherent in the position.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • More than 5 years of professional experience in residential life management in a residential, liberal arts setting.
  • Crisis management skills
  • Experience working at a single sex education 

Work Environment: Office setting, working with students and visitors, computers, files and other materials.

Physical Demands:  Standing, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Travel:  Occasional travel to consortium-related meetings and for professional development.

Work Hours:  Flexible hours with occasional night and weekend shifts.
