The Department of Community Health in the School of Health Sciences is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Community Health. This is a tenure track position.

Area of Specialization: Public Health Generalist.

Primary Job Duties: Teach on campus, online, and hybrid undergraduate and possible graduate courses aligned with the Council on Education for Public Health foundational competencies for public health programs. Participate in curriculum planning, development, and implementation including evaluation of the Community Health program. Serve as a faculty mentor and advisor to students in the Community Health Program. Conduct on-going research in the area of expertise and disseminate findings. Engage in scholarly and interdisciplinary activities including publications, presentations, professional development, and community service. Participate in service activities at University, School, and Program levels. Actively participate in shared governance.

Minimum Qualifications: An earned terminal academic degree (Ph.D., Ed.D, or equivalent) in Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion, or similar health-related field is required. ABD applicants will be considered for hire at the rank of Instructor, with the requirement that doctoral degree is completed within one year of hire date. Additionally, applicants should be CHES/MCHES or CPH certified. If applicant does not possess a CHES/MCHES or CPH certification, he or she must be eligible to sit for the exam and pass within one-year of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience at the post-secondary level in health education, health promotion, public health, or similar health-related field. Knowledge of health education core competencies as defined by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) and mastery in roles and responsibilities related to the field. Experience with CEPH-aligned curriculum development.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level with knowledge and experience using diverse instructional methods and new technologies including online, hybrid and distance learning. Record of service and experience supporting student led programs/activities. Experience with undergraduate academic advising. Demonstrated ability to develop interdisciplinary research/scholarly activities that support the Community Health program and greater community. Evidence of scholarship productivity, such as, writing grants, conducting research, presenting in professional conferences, publishing in journals, and engaging in professional development.
