Job Description

The Security Officer serves within the Department of Public Safety, works 20 hours per week, and reports to the Library Lead Security Officer. This position will work closely with the other members of the Baylor University Police Department (BUPD) staff, Baylor faculty and staff, students, guest to Baylor and with external first responders. The position assist with the open/close of Moody Library, enforces Baylor University policies while patrolling the library, and monitors video surveillance cameras. The successful candidate will have the ability to relate to all members of the Baylor community, a desire to help others, the ability to demonstrate good judgment under pressure, and demonstrate integrity in all job duties.

The successful candidate will have the following:
  • High School Diploma is required, Associate degree preferred
  • Less than 1 year relevant work experience required, 2 years of relevant work experience preferred
  • Must hold a valid Texas Driver's license
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people
  • CPR, AED, and basic first aid training required within 6 months of hire

Job Duties:
  1. Assist with Open/Close of the Library
  2. Periodically patrol all the floors of Library
  3. Monitor video surveillance cameras
  4. Use a BUPD radio for contact with BUPD Dispatch
  5. Patrol outside of Library twice during shift
  6. Observe any problems and/or disturbances at Library and reports to BUPD
  7. Report any unsafe behavior or safety concerns

Report any issues to Library Lead Security Officer/BU Police

Hours: Total 20 hours per week

6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday

12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday

1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday

Job Duties:
  • Patrol facilities and monitor Safety conditions while providing a high level of customer service
  • Provide basic crime prevention information and risk reduction strategies to students, staff, faculty and visitors
  • Respond to various calls for service
  • Contact Baylor Police Department for emergencies and report immediate Safety concerns
  • Monitor security cameras and document policy and Safety violations
  • Participate in departmental training events
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
  • Ability to comply with University policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
