THE UNIVERSITY

FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to teaching and scholarship, faculty are expected to engage in service to the department, school, and community. THE DEPARTMENT
The University Library is a dynamic and innovative partner in the Sonoma State University community. Students are at the core of what we do, and we leverage technology and creativity to promote discovery of and access to collections, to help students learn to use information effectively, and to encourage lifelong learning. We teach students to seek out appropriate information sources, to evaluate information, and to be critical consumers and producers of information in an increasingly digital age. We collaborate with instructional faculty on teaching and learning in the classroom, develop and implement information literacy curriculum, and assess our work in order to make data-driven decisions. We manage resources, both print and digital, assist the community in using library resources, and provide a welcoming environment that facilitates collaboration and creativity.

The Library has 33 employees, including 6 tenure-track library faculty, and approximately 30 student employees. Our collection consists of more than 750,000 volumes (print and e-book) and about 40,000 journal titles. Opened in 2000, the University Library in the Jean and Charles Schulz Information Center is a dynamic learning facility that features teaching labs, wireless access, study rooms and study spaces, a makerspace, an information commons, a cafe, and an automated storage and retrieval system.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION
The Sonoma State University Library seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative librarian to join our team. This new tenure-track position will provide leadership and direct the creation, implementation, and assessment of online learning services and programs that support the Library in research services, instruction, and outreach, as well as University goals for student success. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with units in the Library and on campus to build, position, and assess digital learning by creating effective solutions that address the information needs of Sonoma State's diverse community. The librarian is a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position. Sonoma State University Library faculty have academic departmental liaison responsibilities that include collection development and management, information literacy instruction, research support, and outreach, while working as a team to advance the Library's strategic priorities and engage the Library in the life of the University.

  • Leads and coordinates the implementation, development, and assessment of online tutorials, research guides, and other web technologies to advance library and university curricula
  • Develops and provides training and support for teaching and learning in online environments for the Sonoma State community, including library faculty and staff
  • Collaborates with library and campus partners to design and implement technologies that enhance student success
  • As subject/department liaison, builds relationships to promote and integrate library instruction, collections, services, and initiatives into university life
  • Provides information literacy instruction and research services
  • Works collaboratively as a part of the library faculty team to create a cohesive, progressive information literacy curriculum
  • Selects materials for designated subjects/departments and recommends specialized resources and/or programming

    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
    To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have:

    Education
  • ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library/Information Science at the time of appointment

    Experience
  • One year's experience in an academic library or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience creating online instruction resources such as tutorials or research guides
  • Experience as a subject liaison or demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty on projects and/or information literacy instruction
  • Experience providing instruction to students in a diverse academic environment and/or demonstrated fluency with current library pedagogy

    Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends, practices, and principles in instructional design and online education, including principles of accessibility and universal design
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles of diversity and inclusion; ability to work well with diverse populations and demonstrated level of cultural competence
  • A record of scholarly achievement or demonstrated ability to build such a record to fulfill the expectations for promotion and tenure
  • Ability to thrive in a changing work environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    RANK AND SALARY
    The rank is Senior Assistant Librarian. Service credit depends upon academic preparation and professional experience. The salary for this position is $76,284.
