The Department of Public Health and Human Services at the University of South Carolina Beaufort invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Public Health.  The Public Health program is looking for candidates who want to make a difference and have the vision to create a world-class educational experience in a small university setting. Area of specialization is open. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching several undergraduate Public Health courses including experiential learning courses, Leadership & Management in Public Health, Health Promotion Across the Lifespan, Health Behavior & Education, and Chronic Disease & Risk Reduction as examples. Additional responsibilities include student advisement, service on committees and scholarship within the discipline.

The Department is especially seeking candidates who demonstrate potential for mentoring undergraduate Public Health majors as an academic advisor and in research projects.  An Assistant Professor teaches four undergraduate courses per semester with a majority of face-to-face classroom delivery and options for online delivery.  Faculty are also expected to participate in university, department, and discipline service as well as maintain an active research program that engages undergraduate students.  This position is a 9-month appointment, commencing in August 2022.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications.


The successful candidate will possess degrees from an accredited institution by August 2022 with a doctorate in Public Health or related field. Individuals with a doctorate in another field and a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) will be considered. The successful candidate will have prior university teaching experience, demonstrate evidence of effective teaching, a record of intellectual contributions, and institutional service commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor.

Preferred credentials include; MCHES, CHES, or CPH. The ideal candidate will have evidence of strong teaching skills, in the classroom and online, and a strong commitment to undergraduate education.  Preference will also be given to candidates who can teach core courses in the Public Health program curriculum, and who demonstrate a program of research that can engage undergraduate students.


The University of South Carolina Beaufort (www.uscb.edu) is located in South Carolina’s coastal islands, close to Hilton Head Island, Charleston, and Savannah, Georgia. The university currently has three campuses which serve a diverse student body of about 2000 students: The Beaufort campus, located on the Intracoastal Waterway in downtown Beaufort, and the Bluffton campus in Bluffton, S.C. where Public Health and several other academic departments are headquartered, and the Hilton Head Island Campus, home to USCB’s Hospitality Management and OLLI program. All campuses are located in Beaufort County.
