The Department of Biology at Texas A&M University is responsible for research and teaching within the vast disciplines of the biological sciences, from molecular cell biology to ecology and evolutionary biology. The Research Assistant will conduct research on the mechanisms by which the sensory-motor circuits develop and generate locomotor behaviors in Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit Fly). The candidate will be responsible for performing data analysis using MATLAB and/or Python programming languages, keeping an accurate laboratory notebook, preparing manuscripts of research for publication, and participating in the training of students in the laboratory, and performing general laboratory duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Appropriate Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelors degree in computational and mathematical biology, genetics, or animal behavior or Masters degree in neuroscience or computational biology
- Strong background in MATLAB and/or Python programming languages
- Strong background in Neuroscience and Genetics
- Proficiency working with at least one of the following computer languages: MATLAB, Python, R
Instructions to Applicants
- Designing and executing research experiments and analyzing results
- General laboratory duties such as purchasing supplies, research equipment maintenance, maintaining a safe working environment
- Maintaining an accurate laboratory notebook, writing manuscripts, presenting findings, and contributing to grant proposals
- Collaborating in mentorship and training of grad students and undergrads
- Other duties as assigned
