Provides athletic training students, either verbally or in writing, a weekly schedule in order to complete clinical experience hours as required to fulfill clinical education course requirements. Closely monitors and verifies student clinical hours weekly in eValue. Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others


Required Licenses and Certifications:
  • Texas Athletic Trainer License. BOC Certification as an Athletic Trainer


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Knowledge of the Athletic Training Mastery and Assessment of Clinical Competencies (AT-MAC) and the eValue system


Responsibilities:
  • Completes initial Preceptor training and participate in planned and ongoing preceptor education as determined by program. Abides by all applicable policies and procedures of the MSAT Student Handbook.


  • Demonstrates that the electrical modalities and electrical safeguards for the clinical site annually pass safety inspections and are calibrated by a qualified technician. Ensures that the facility complies with Occupational Safety and Health Administration or appropriate blood-borne pathogen procedures including an exposure plan. Provides program with up to date venue-specific emergency action plans.


  • Provides an orientation session for athletic training students at the beginning of each clinical assignment. Provides athletic training students, either verbally or in writing, a weekly schedule in order to complete clinical experience hours as required to fulfill clinical education course requirements. Closely monitors and verifies student clinical hours weekly in eValue. Reviews students' patient encounters regularly in eValue at a minimum before mid-rotation and end of rotation evaluations. Ensure that students have a minimum of one day off in every seven-day period. Ensures the department does not use students to replace athletic training professional staff or medical personnel. Provides on-site supervision of students during the delivery of patient/client care and is physically present in order to intervene on behalf of the individual being cared for or the student. Structures clinical experiences along a developmental continuum that allows students to move from interdependence to independence based on the student's knowledge and skills as well as the context of patient/client care leading to independent practice upon graduation. Provides instruction and opportunities for the student to develop clinical competency, communication skills, and clinical decision-making during actual patient/client care. Schedules weekly meetings with assigned student to evaluate the clinical competencies that are less likely to be performed on a real patient population and must therefore be simulated. Participates in regular and ongoing communication with the program. Acquires feedback from the program at least once per academic year regarding Preceptor performance and expectations.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.
