Biomolecular Engineering: Research Specialist, Evolutionary Genomics (Open until filled. Apply by 4/19/19)

) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of Research Specialist. Under the direction of Dr. Russ Corbett-Detig (corbett.sites.ucsc.edu), the Research Specialist will develop molecular protocols, produce next-generation sequencing libraries, utilize basic computational methods (e.g. Unix and python scripting), and will also make scholarly contributions to the research program through the preparation of scientific manuscripts and/or meeting presentations. Other responsibilities may also include the development and application of Illumina short-read sequencing technologies. The candidate will be expected to learn new techniques and implement protocols, demonstrate strong attention to detail, display strong written and verbal communication skills, exercise good time management and problem-solving skills, and work effectively in a team environment.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in molecular biology, bioinformatics or related field at the time of application and at least two years of experience in laboratory-based molecular biology research

DURATION OF POSITION
The initial appointment will be full time for six months with the possibility of extension. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment a review to assess performance will be conducted. Extension or reappointment is also contingent upon availability of funding.
