Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Non-tenure track teaching faculty are expected to teach in the College of Nursing in areas of expertise, provide service to the College, University, community, and profession and contribute to the mission and strategic priorities of the College of Nursing. These positions include clinical teaching.

Applications are encouraged from individuals in the following areas of expertise:
  • Community Health
  • Informatics
  • Health Care Systems
  • Adult Health
  1. Participating in the ongoing development, implementation, evaluation, and enhancement of nursing academic programs:
    1. Participate in program and course revisions.
    2. Revise assigned courses to reflect program outcomes, AACN essentials, and other professional standards, state board of nursing minimum standards, current evidence and best practice.
    3. Collaborate with emphasis area coordinators, clinical coordinators, program directors, and the Associate Dean for Academic Programs to identify the types of clinical experiences and sites needed for optimal clinical education of students.
    4. Teach graduate and undergraduate nursing courses as assigned.
    5. Supervise nursing students as assigned.
    6. Collaborate with clinical agencies in arranging student clinical experiences (e.g. orientation to objectives of clinical experience, course syllabus, clinical schedule, et al) as appropriate.
    7. Participate in the development of academic policies affecting the admission, progression, graduation and dismissal of students.
    8. Participate in the evaluation and ongoing enhancement of the curricula.
    9. Apply evidence from best education practices to curriculum development and to teaching.
  1. Serve the College of Nursing, University, community and profession:
    1. Participate in College of Nursing faculty, standing committee, task force and other meetings.
    2. Participate in University Assembly and Faculty Senate Committees and ad hoc committees.
    3. Participate in community and professional activities as appropriate.
    4. Participate in scholarly projects as appropriate.
  1. Contribute to the mission and strategic priorities of the College of Nursing and the University of Missouri-St. Louis
  1. Collaborate effectively with other faculty and staff members both within the College of Nursing and throughout the University and community to develop inter-professional academic, clinical, and research opportunities.
  1. Engagement in clinical scholarship or research.
Reporting Lines

NTT Teaching faculty report to the Executive Directors of Baccalaureate or Graduate Practice Programs.

Minimum Qualifications


Licensure (or eligibility for) as a Registered Nurse in Missouri.

Effective interpersonal skills and cultural competence.

Ability to work with a diverse group of students and colleagues.

Ability to work independently and within teams.


Doctoral degree in nursing.

Evidence of successful classroom and/or clinical teaching experience.

Experience with instructional media and technology

  5. Work with the Program Director, academic support services in the College, and those within the University to ensure recruitment of excellent students, retention of students, and high graduation, licensure, and certification rates.

9 or 12 Month Academic


Faculty Handbook, Collected Rules and Regulations for the University of Missouri, Missouri Board of Nursing and CCNE will be guidelines for this position.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Sensory Perception necessary for effective communication (constantly)

Reasonable facility of movement to carry out teaching, research and service obligations in the classroom and clinical settings (frequently)

Must have the ability to assimilate information, reason well, and to conduct classes in such a way that students are engaged as measured on the student evaluations.

Must be able to communicate effectively, efficiently and sensitively with students, peers, staff and other members of the university and community.
