Job Description

The University is looking for an upbeat and positive person to work primarily in the area of collections for the Student Financial Services' Office. The candidate should enjoy working directly with students in person and on the telephone to develop payment plans and to find creative solutions to evolving challenges. The chosen candidate will be the primary contact for all collection activities for students and collection agencies. Roles and responsibilities may change in time to include other areas, including cross training. A stable work history, attention to detail, excellent verbal and written skills, superb customer service - including the ability to defuse tense situation and organization are a must for this position.

Responsibilities

Collections
  • Manage the Promissory Note process.
  • Process collections.
  • Reconcile collection agency activity to the student system.
  • Compile and upload year-end deferral entries.
General
  • Assist customers/students with understanding their accounts (credits, payments, and balances).
  • Answer incoming phone calls and emails.
  • Receive, sort, and stamp incoming mail.
  • Set up payment arrangements with students over the phone and in person.
  • Open and close the office (includes safe counting, cashier balancing, and uploading data).
  • Run, schedule, and write queries in PeopleSoft as needed.
  • Create documentation of policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties assigned.
  • Manage calendars and schedule appointments
  • Create and maintain reports
  • Provide frontline phone support for all constituents, students, faculty and staff
  • General office management including receiving and directing visitors
  • Actively contact students with delinquent balances via e-mail, telephone and mail
  • Conduct face to face and telephone negotiations with students to get their debts paid
  • Monitor accounts and payment plans
  • Resolve customer account balance disputes
  • Make decisions regarding proper collection actions to take while following Federal regulations
  • Fill in for various duties in the absence of other staff members including phone, clerical, and frontline
  • Review and process bankruptcy notifications
  • Review students appeals
  • Communicate directly with collection agencies about accounts
  • Process credits to student accounts
Salary

Salary Range: $16.92-$23.80/hr

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience (or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience).

Preferred Qualifications
  • One year direct interaction with accounts receivable.
  • Student AR experience in PeopleSoft or University Collections experience
