General Description:
The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) is a group of experienced and highly motivated individuals in a community-friendly work environment supporting our important public service mission and Complete 2021 as we educate 225,000 credit students annually and over 150,000 non-credit students at 23 Community Colleges with over 40 campus locations. The Veteran Resource Representative provides comprehensive and intensive enrollment and advising services to current and prospective veteran and transitioning military members at institutions participating in the Veteran Education Resource Initiative for Transition, Advising, and Success (VERITAS) Initiative.

Duties and Tasks:
The Veteran Resource Representative will perform duties at the Loudoun Veteran Center and Manassas campus, working with veteran students to provide support services from pre-enrollment to graduation. The Representative will have a comprehensive knowledge of all college policies and procedures, including the application, enrollment, placement, and orientation processes. The Representative should also have knowledge of all transfer, occupational technical, and workforce services programs offered at the College. The incumbent will have a singular focus of helping veterans students with benefit advising, course selection and completing the online Veterans Certification Enrollment Request Form (VERF) help with resolving problems that could interfere with students educational goals and assist and monitor their progress toward successful attainment of educational goals, especially degree completion. The individual will help connect the veterans with appropriate institutional, local, state, and federal resources that address veteran challenges and provide opportunities. The position will be located at Northern Virginia Community College, Loudoun campus and provide coverage at other campus veteran offices when necessary. This position will report to the Director of Military & Veteran Services. Some travel will be required to the College’s six campuses and other off-site locations for meetings, when necessary.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle complex and detail-oriented workload
  • Team-oriented towards program design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff, including those from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to demonstrate strong leadership abilities, influencing others in a positive manner while achieving goals, and effectively communicating ideas and generating support for ideas.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree (or higher); OR a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher); OR a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Military experience; veterans’ status; Military Spouse
  • Strong knowledge of Veterans’ Benefit Programs
  • Experience in a post-secondary education, preferably in a community college setting
  • Familiarity with the needs of student veterans and/or non-traditional student populations
  • Understanding of military/veteran culture and experiences
